On March 6, the Muskingum County Center for Seniors will have an operating levy on the ballot. The passage of this 5-year half-mil renewal levy is crucial for us to continue to provide quality services to the senior citizens in our county. Annually, this levy provides about half of the money required for the home delivered meals, congregate meals, transportation and other social activities that our seniors have come to rely upon. The remaining half of our revenue comes from reimbursements from the Area Agency on Aging for each unit of service that we provide and from donations. The levy is used as matching money to receive the unit of service reimbursements from the Area Agency on Aging. Without the levy, staffing requirements could not be met and the reimbursable services could not be provided.
The services provided by the Center increased again in 2011 from the previous year.
- 98,904 meals were delivered to all areas of Muskingum County
- 23,655 seniors came to one of our congregate meal sites for lunch
- The Center prepared and served a total of 122,559 meals
- 64,932 miles of transportation were provided free to seniors for doctor's appointments, chemotherapy, dialysis and other life-sustaining medical services
- 3,000 seniors came monthly and participated in social activities, traveled with us, or joined in one of the many educational and informational programs that we offered
